Jhonattan Vegas ?
This 26-year-old rookie needed patience and perseverance just to make it to Palm Springs from that camp in the Orinoco River. This new young gun comes to us from Venezuela, we had the opportunity to fellow this young man on Saturday afternoon at La Quinta Country Club. We were very impressed with this play. Throughout the entire tournament the buzz focus on this young man, to see if he had what it takes to finish a tournament. After bogeying the final hole, their was a three man playoff. Jhonattan Vegas, Defending Champion Bill Haas, and another PGA Rookie Gary Woodland. Bill Haas failed to make his par on the first playoff hole, Jhonattan and Gary continued to the second, where Jhonatten tee shot found the water hazard, Gary putted on iron and placed his tee shot center cut of the fairway. Woodland second shot found the greenside bunker, Vegas third shot found the back of the greenside rough, Woodland missed to putt to win. Vegas became the first Venezuelan to win on the PGA Tour.
